As disasters (natural and man-made) continue to make an appearance in regular intervals, Drive India Enterprise Solutions Limited (DIESL), an expert in area of logistics and supply chain management has taken its 1st steps towards contributing to the cause of Humanitarian Logistics. Humanitarian Logistics is a branch of logistics which specializes in organizing the delivery and warehousing of supplies during natural disasters or complex emergencies to the affected area and people. Type and quantity of the resources, way of procurement and storage of the supplies, tools of tracking and means of transportation to the stricken area, specialization of teams participating in the operation and plan of cooperation between these teams, are some important issues that are connected directly to humanitarian logistics

Education and Training:
DIESL has partnered with TATA Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) to conduct training and courses in Disaster Management Logistics for their citizen volunteers, to give them a practical experience in logistics management with a view of relief supply. As a part of this project, employees of DIESL develop the course material, audio visual aids, and presentations and form the core faculty for this course. Students are also taken for site visits to DIESL warehouses to help them understand the crux of operations during disasters. At the end of the course DIESL provides internship to TISS students who prepare projects on management of disasters which help us review and better our relief management project plans. DIESL Humanitarian Logistics Program will be replicated with other educational institutes and NGOs with this in the coming months.

Relief Operations:
DIESL is working on setting up operational plans and networks, with the help of NGOs where DIESL, as experts in Logistics will use and develop technology to aid humanitarian agencies with efficient logistics. This plan will be tested and set in motion in the face of disasters, where DIESL warehouses will help in storage and inventory management and DIESL Connect, its distribution arm will provide the backbone for effectively disbursing and tracing the supply of relief material. The current operational plan is being prepared keeping in mind the very real and impending floods that Mumbai city faces every monsoons.
